Book 1 in the ‘Demons of Fire and Night series’

First off, the memory loss plot device is overused and typically I would just skip right over any synopsis that features those words, BUT, this series manages to twist it into something new and interesting.

She’s forgotten her past. Too bad her past won’t return the favor.

Ursula can’t remember a single thing from before three years ago, so she has to keep her life simple. All she wants is to earn enough money for rent–and maybe a bit left over for a new pair of boots.

But on her eighteenth birthday, all hell breaks loose… quite literally… when a hellhound shifter shows up in her kitchen. Kester’s lethally gorgeous, and he’s come with a terrifying message: Ursula owes her soul to a demon.

No one seems to care that she doesn’t remember striking that deal.

F.U or Former Ursula as the character calls her ‘pre-memory loss’ self has mad skills and has somehow made a bargain with a Hellhound in exchange for the gift of fire.

Such great character dialogue and this series weaves in so many questions that you have to read on to know the answers.

At the end of the first novel, Ursula has even less of an idea about who she is. The mythology of this book is brilliant and carries over well into the second book (Spoiler: which takes place on the moon BTW.)

A must read! 5/5

Kelly Oram has a unique ability to transport you into the world of fame and drama that is so well rounded and developed you can’t help falling in love with her books.

Cinder & Ella links worlds with the V is for Virgin series, springing off from a minor character (Brian) and explaining his story. I particularly liked the internet friend aspect of this story.

I love the premise and the characters, particularly Ellamara.

I don’t want to give too much away, but you must read this book if you love a good YA romance.

Circus is family.

This book reminds me of that feeling you get when you see an aerial acrobats show for the first time, and you marvel at all of the feats that people can accomplish with their bodies.

This book manages to encapsulate all of the hard work, struggles, and the high-flying joy that comes with being a circus performer.

The romance between Nikolai and Thora evolves quite naturally from their innate chemistry, but the story is themed around the hard work, in both their romance and their careers in the circus.

I came away from reading this book with an urge to book myself onto an aerial hoop class.

You will love this novel, just sayin’.

Everyone loves a good YA, popular crush trope don’t they? Mr Popular, the brother’s best friend and the innocent heroine.

This kind of book is my guilty pleasure. Whilst Mr Popular has a good back story and some turmoil thrown in for good measure, I can only give it 4/5, but it does the job. It’s a light read, without many real surprises but you know what you are getting into.

The Monday Girl and the Someday Girl are the two books that combine to make ‘The Girl’ duet. Let’s just say, the description is wish fulfilment. A struggling actress, who has a very realistic internal dialogue (just sayin’) suddenly lands the lead part in a film.

This was not what I was expecting, and Johnson definitely throws a curve ball with the romantic interests and the relationships between the characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good contemporary romance, I think this is the perfect holiday read!

Review: End of Eden by S.L Jennings (Seven Sinners #2) Kindle Unlimited

S.L Jennings does erotic scenes and romance well. What I didn’t expect was the darkness that came with this second instalment of the seven sinners series.

The first book in this series focuses very much on the female leads romantic relationship with Legion, a strong, serious and tortured fallen angel.

The second book – let’s just say that you feel the emotions as the character experiences them. This isn’t your typical happy romance conflict. This book is full of little twists that you don’t expect as well as uncertainty.

Eden, the female heroine, remains her strong self in the face of conflict. But at what emotional cost? The journey that Eden goes on in this book is what makes this series great.

5/5 again from S.L Jennings.

Love the tie in with the dark light characters.

(Spoiler: if you’ve missed Niko, you’ll love this book)

Let’s talk about Rhapsodic first:

Everything that Thalassa has created in this beautiful urban fantasy novel world has left me enamoured, in love, empty and needing more.

If you love ACOTAR, you will devour this series without a breath.

I could not sleep until I had finished this novel.

I am a massive fan of Thalassa’s work, and she is one of my favourite authors. I honestly cannot wait for the sequel of this book. Luckily the cover and title have been revealed.

And The Bargainer , one of my all time favourite male romantic interests. The king of the night, the intrigue of owning debts to a beautiful faery cloaked by shadows. The mystery of the missing women. Callie, the strong and modern siren.

Such an intense and amazing book.

Looking at the sequel cover, I can only guess that we will delve deeper into the Fauna kingdom, where we only scratched the surface previously. I cannot wait to be immersed in Thalassa’s faery world again.

I give it all of the marks. More than five out of five. All of the thumbs up Thalassa.

Review: Trickery by Jaymin Eve & Jane Washington

Trickery is a brilliant example of a fantasy series starting with a bang, and getting you hooked right from the start. Honestly, there were so many seeds planted in this novel that I can’t wait to read the rest of the series to watch them come into fruition.

The premise is deliriously good. A society where the gods essentially live on earth until the die and ascend. The prejudices and class divides make for brilliant dynamics between the main characters.

I began to feel a reverse harem vibe once all of the lead male characters were introduced, and whereas this premise normally makes me uncomfortable if it is done in a tacky way, this was executed in a way that tied into the plot in an intriguing way.

This book deserves a five out of five. Such an addictive story and I honestly cannot wait for the rest of the books.

Willa Knight: Dweller. Slave. Non-magical being.

Under the sudden, watchful eye of the gods, she will be tasked to serve the Abcurse brothers, five sols built of arrogance, perfection and power. They are almost gods themselves, and under their service she is either going to end up sentenced to death, or else they are going to ruin her so badly that she will wish for it.

Either way, she is in trouble.

Jane Washington is a fave of mine ever since ‘Charcoal Tears’, but I have never read anything from Jaymin Eve, but now I think I will.

This was a good combo of authors and such an example of good fantasy fiction.
